NIHR Evidence Generation for Diagnostics 2026 — online course for diagnostics developers

November 24 @ 9:00 am - November 25 @ 3:00 pm

New diagnostics need evidence before they reach patients. On 24–25 November 2026, the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in Diagnostic and Technology Evaluation is running an online course on how to develop that evidence effectively — from early-stage portfolio building through to health economics and regulatory readiness.

The two-day programme is a step-by-step guide to evidence generation, delivered by experts from Newcastle University, Newcastle Hospitals and the health technology industry. Topics include identifying unmet clinical needs, selecting reference standards, measuring diagnostic accuracy, examining clinical utility, and building cost-effectiveness and budget-impact models. The course also highlights the support available from the NIHR HRC to diagnostics developers at each stage.

This is an introductory course suitable for anyone with an interest in diagnostic evidence generation — whether you’re an academic researcher, an industry developer, or an NHS innovator trying to understand what evidence payers actually want.
